I know I haven't posted in a while...but I've been busy, which is a good thing. So here is the voice from the void...
I've been transcribing notes from a story note book I found, and filling in blanks of already existing stories.
I've been working on a rewrite of my epic sci fi project KEY TO PARADISE.
At the time I wrote it, I thought the opening was the best thing I'd ever written. Seven years later and wow...it is not. LOL
Firstly, it starts with a voice over and a time lapse. Yeah, not complicated at all (she said sarcastically). So, after reading it over a bit, and asking for opinions from my online writers group, I have decided to eliminate the voice over and use title cards stating he starting time of the sequence and ending in the time that the story takes place; about 500 years.
The biggest danger of creating a world that isn't the present day is how you present it so that it makes sense and the audience can identify with it.
I've also been investigating more avenues in getting my work in front of producers that might be interested. It's hard. Finding places that accept unsolicited manuscripts or ideas. Most won't and to some extent I understand why, but also find it frustrating.
I don't like entering contests as it costs money and there are no guarantees, plus winning doesn't mean a screenplay sale or representation.
Personally, I would prefer to make the film myself, but then there is distribution to consider, plus finding funds to do it and the risks are high. So, I can understand why newbies are kept at the back of the line by the industry gatekeepers.
It's frustrating, but I keep working, I keep faith that I have talent and that if I keep plugging away I will get a break, eventually, before I'm too old to enjoy it!
But I digress.
So, the back hurts from hunching over the computer, the tailbone hurts for the same reason. I think a good book and bed is in order.
Until next time, faithful readers.
Thanks for sticking with me!
